AXIAR Laser Forms and Output Management Software for Retail and Point-of-Sale Applications

Overview

Any large organization produces paper to manage processes and fulfill its goals. For retail and point-of-sale applications, documents such as invoices, rental agreements, contracts, statements, purchase orders, checks and invoices are vital for communicating to customers and ensuring efficient business processes. Lost print jobs or inefficient document delivery results in customer dissatisfaction, lost revenue, voided contracts, bad barcodes and non-compliance with government regulations.

Fortunately, LBM Systems’ UNIX, Linux, Windows and AS/400 laser forms, print queue management and output management software is used at many banks to reduce costs, ensure document delivery and streamline document-based processes.

Point-of-Sale Laser Form Printing
One of the world’s largest manufacturers of agricultural, homeowner, turf, construction and forestry equipment that supports a network of over 1,500 dealer sites needed to eliminate pre-printed forms used with commercial accounting applications specifically designed for managing point of sale and small-medium back office financial and accounting data. AXIAR Format is used to intelligently format output based on data-driven triggers and deliver the specific forms to the appropriate printers. From a single print request, multipart forms are sent to local and remote printers on the network, eliminating the need for bursting and collating output. Forms are printed on blank paper, eliminating paper stock and the need to use dedicated form printers. Read the complete Success Story here.

“My Parts Manager has chucked his dot matrix printer and moved his laser printer to the Parts counter in full faith. The Parts Invoice has been virtually flawless from day one. My Branch Manager is also using the system to print both his Rental Invoices and Rental Contracts. We have another laser up front that prints in duplex so his contracts come out with the legalese on the back side, nice and clean.”

Ensured Document Delivery and Ensured Forms Fidelity
Before using AXIAR, Build-A-Bear Workshop® was processing web orders into hard copy certificates, invoices, pickslips and customer experience “enhancements” ready for immediate shipping and home delivery using pre-printed forms on impact printers. Unfortunately, impact printers and a legacy form creation process wouldn’t allow for the type of document enhancements and personalization required with a new end-to-end e-commerce solution.

“We really needed an online system that would expeditiously allow us to incorporate the personal touches our Guests were accustomed to,” said Jennifer Vogel, IT Develo-Bear Manager. “LBM Systems was introduced to us by HP as a strategic partner for print output management. We gave them a call.” Raw data streams for documents such as certificates, invoices and pickslips were feeding directly into AXIAR for formatting and personalization based on data fields and associated logic. “With the help of LBM Systems’ tech team, we had the software up and accepting our data streams in a few days,” says Vogel. “Now it was time to see what they could do with some of the personalization touches we needed.” The trademark font of Build-A-Bear Workshop, “BearHouse”, which a Guest to their stores or website can immediately identify as a Build-A-Bear Workshop trademark, was now enabled in this new modern forms printing environment. Bar codes on the invoice and certificate now identified the appropriate Bear with his/her appropriate accoutrement. As customers ordered product, they were provided with frequent shopper stamps, all of which were formatted on the fly based on database queries, and printed for immediate delivery. Any changes to the forms today are made in-house using AXIAR’s easy-to-use Format Composer Tool. During high-volume periods, AXIAR’s ability to cluster printers for greatly enhanced volume printing is being used by Build-A-Bear Workshop. In addition, the product’s innovative auto-failover feature ensures the delivery of output despite the condition of the hardware device (out of paper, unplugged, etc.).

The staff at Build-A-Bear Workshop believes there are many uses for the varied delivery options of AXIAR Deliver. “We’ll definitely grow with this product and LBM Systems,” claims Dave Finnegan, Director of InBearmation Technology. “They’ve become a great business partner for Build-A-Bear Workshop.” Read the complete Success Story here.

Cluster Printing Lowers Costs and Ensures Delivery of PeopleSoft Check Output
One of the largest supermarket chains in the United States uses LBM software to print PeopleSoft check runs for their payroll processes. By using LBM software to harness the power of multiple printers, large print runs are completed rapidly and printers are deployed in and out of the cluster depending on volume requirements. In addition, AXIAR’s ensured print delivery and print auditing/metrics collection gives IT personnel real-time access to print delivery status and re-routing options in the event of printer failure.

Barcode Printing for Shelf Labels
A major convenience store chain uses AXIAR to print shelf labels at individual sites using laser printers. With AXIAR, application data is converted to barcode fonts and printed remotely to individual stores. The personnel at the stores simply need to pick of the barcode labels and affix them. AXIAR ensures the delivery of the print output adn monitors the status of the target printers, giving IT personnel the ability to reprint or put jobs on hold in the event of a printer failure.

Batch Document Imaging for Storage
A large chain of discount stores uses AXIAR and PCL2PDF to mange printing and simultaneously create a PDF of documents. Rather than printing and then scanning, AXIAR and PCL2PDF create PDFs ‘on the fly’ and route them to pre-configured output object destinations. Since the PDF is a text-searchable and exact duplicate of the printed material, there are no scanning or conversion errors to remedy.
